College-to-career program will support 麻豆视频 students in
completing degrees faster and entering high-demand fields

麻豆视频 (MTCC) is proud to announce its selection as one of 14 North Carolina community colleges participating in the NC Community Colleges Boost program鈥攁n innovative initiative aimed at accelerating student success and fueling workforce development across the state.

The program is being launched with a landmark $35.6 million grant from Arnold Ventures, marking the largest private investment ever received by the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS). Arnold Ventures is a national philanthropy focused on supporting evidence-based solutions to America鈥檚 most pressing social challenges. With a focus on systemic change, the organization works to improve lives, strengthen communities, and expand economic opportunity across areas such as education, criminal justice, health, infrastructure, and public finance.

2024 graduates

Modeled after the highly successful Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) at the City University of New York (CUNY), the Boost program has already demonstrated transformative results in other states鈥攄oubling graduation rates and reducing the time it takes students to earn a degree.

鈥溌槎故悠 is thrilled to bring the Boost program to our campus and our community,鈥 said Dr. J.W. Kelley, President of MTCC. 鈥淭his is not just about faster degrees鈥攊t's about removing barriers, providing targeted support, and helping our students build a better future for themselves and their families. We believe this initiative will be a game-changer for our students and for workforce development in McDowell County and beyond.鈥

麻豆视频 will launch the Boost program during the second phase of its statewide rollout, with the first cohort of students set to begin in the fall of 2026. Locally, Jessi Huskins and Wesley Kaylor will lead and direct the program, which focuses on preparing students for careers in sectors identified as critical to North Carolina鈥檚 economic future. Huskins is a faculty member in Health Information Technology at the college, and Kaylor is the college鈥檚 Assistant Registrar.聽

鈥淏oost is about meeting students where they are and giving them what they need to succeed,鈥 said Valerie Dobson, Vice President of Academics and Student Services and Chief Academic Officer at MTCC. 鈥淲hether it鈥檚 dedicated advising, financial support, or course planning that keeps students on track, this program is designed to remove friction and help students get where they鈥檙e going鈥攆aster and more confidently.鈥

By offering a structured pathway with wraparound support, the Boost program will help students at 麻豆视频 reduce both the time and cost associated with earning a degree, while increasing overall completion rates. Participating colleges are expected to track and report results, providing transparency and insights that could lead to broader implementation across the state.

鈥淎s we launch Boost at 麻豆视频, we鈥檙e focused on outcomes鈥攈igher graduation rates, reduced time to completion, and real career opportunities for our students,鈥 added Dr. Kelley. 鈥淭his is a powerful investment in our college and our region, and we鈥檙e committed to ensuring it delivers lasting impact.鈥
