Procedure

Â鶹ÊÓƵ manages a convenience store/spirit shop. The convenience store/spirit shop provides:

  • MTCC Logo Merchandise
  • Convenience items such as Scantrons, pens, paper, etc.
  • Kits/Uniforms for Cosmetology, BLET, Nursing, etc.
  • Books

The College convenience store/spirit shop will not cash personal checks when not for convenience store/spirit shop purchases.

Textbooks and Instructional Supplies

  1. Requisitions for textbooks and instructional supplies:

a. For curriculum classes, no resources (books supplies, kits, etc.) will be purchased by the convenience store/spirit shop without an official adoption on file. b. For Extension and Adult Basic Education classes, forms should be completed by the Vice President of Workforce Development or the Director of Career and College Readiness or Adult Basic Education four weeks prior to the beginning of a class or earlier if possible. c. It is the responsibility of the faculty member teaching the course to give a reasonably accurate estimated enrollment count based on past and expected enrollment when submitting their adoptions to avoid overstock as much as possible. d. If an instructor wishes to change materials, an attempt will be made by the convenience store/spirit shop to return overstock to the vendor. e. If resources are unable to be returned, the faculty member, department chair and/or dean must check in-stock supply prior to making a transition to a new edition or new text. If unreturnable stock is left over in the convenience store/spirit shop, the instructor will be required to teach out the resources or purchase through departmental charging before transitioning. Buyout resources will be sold at cost without the standard 25% markup. f. Resources adopted, unsold, and unreturnable for a continuing education class that will either not be offered again or not offered with the same resource requirements, may be subject to buyout through departmental charging. These materials will be sold at cost without the standard 25% convenience store/spirit shop markup.

  1. Students will ordinarily obtain their books and supplies from the convenience store/spirit shop. However, in the event a class is to be taught off-campus, items may be issued in advance of the class to the instructor for sale to the students.
  2. Instructors should request desk copies and instructors material from the publisher’s sale’s rep. If it is necessary to obtain a textbook from the convenience store/spirit shop, the convenience store/spirit shop will be reimbursed by state funds from the departmental budget for the cost of the book. Effort should be made, however, to secure an instructor’s copy from the vendor before requesting a book from inventory.
  3. The convenience store/spirit shop will remain open during the bookstore charging period at the beginning of a semester from 9am – 6pm, Monday – Thursday and 9am – 1pm on Friday. Thereafter, it will be open 9am – 4:30pm Monday – Thursday and 9am – 1pm on Friday.
